Apex Trader Funding Challenges: Complete Breakdown of the New Evaluation Structure

The table above shows every Apex Trader Funding challenge currently available for purchase. Below, we break down exactly what changed, how the two drawdown types compare, what the new PA rules mean for your payouts, and where Apex quietly tightened things alongside the headline improvements.

The Apex Evolution: What Changed on March 1, 2026

Apex Trader Funding launched what it calls “Apex 4.0” on March 1, 2026 - a ground-up overhaul of its entire evaluation and Performance Account structure. If you traded Apex before this date, the program you knew no longer exists for new purchases. Here is what changed.

1-Day Pass Is Now Permanent

Under the legacy system, passing in a single trading day was a promotional feature that Apex enabled and disabled. The standard requirement was 7 minimum trading days. That distinction no longer exists. Every new Apex evaluation - regardless of account size, drawdown type, or platform - has a permanent 1-day minimum to pass. Hit the profit target while respecting your drawdown, and you can move to a PA account after a single session. There is no promotional fine print, no limited-time window, and no asterisk. One day is the standard.

One-Time Fees Only

Monthly recurring billing has been completely eliminated for all new evaluation accounts. Every challenge listed in the table above is a one-time purchase. You pay once, receive a 30-day evaluation window, and that is the extent of your financial commitment. There are no subscription renewals, no auto-charges if you forget to cancel, and no ongoing costs during the evaluation phase. This is a fundamental shift from the legacy model, where traders paid $147–$677 per month (depending on account size and platform) for as long as their evaluation remained active, with the fee recurring until the account was passed, failed, or cancelled.

The “Rule Purge”

This is the change that will matter most to traders who experienced payout issues under the legacy system. Apex has officially removed the two most controversial rules that governed Performance Account compliance:

The 30% MAE (Maximum Adverse Excursion) Rule - Eliminated

Under legacy rules, your open unrealized loss on any trade could not exceed 30% of your account’s profit balance at the start of the day. On a $50K account with $4,000 in profit, that meant a maximum open drawdown of $1,200 per trade. For new or low-profit accounts, the 30% was calculated against the trailing threshold amount instead (30% of $2,500 = $750 on a $50K). This rule was the single most common reason legacy traders had payouts denied or accounts flagged. It punished normal trading behavior - holding a position through a temporary pullback before it moved in your favor - and created a constant tension between letting trades work and staying compliant. On new accounts, this rule does not exist.

The 5:1 Risk-Reward Ratio Rule - Eliminated

Legacy PA accounts required that your stop loss could not exceed 5 times your profit target on any trade. If you were targeting 10 ticks, your stop could not be wider than 50 ticks. While mental stops were technically permitted, traders on probation were required to use hard stop-loss orders. This rule restricted position management strategies that involved wider initial stops with the intention of scaling out - a legitimate and common approach in futures trading. On new accounts, this rule does not exist.

The removal of these two rules is not a minor adjustment. They were the primary mechanisms by which Apex enforced granular, trade-by-trade compliance for funded accounts. Without them, the new PA structure relies on broader metrics - the 50% consistency rule, the drawdown itself, and the built-in scaling - rather than monitoring individual trade execution.

No Payout Reviews

Under the legacy system, payout requests triggered a review process. Traders reported being asked for video recordings of their trading sessions, chart screenshots showing trade entries and exits, and detailed explanations of their strategy. Payouts could be denied based on the reviewer’s interpretation of whether the trader’s approach met Apex’s compliance standards. This process introduced subjectivity and uncertainty into every payout request.

Apex’s new system explicitly eliminates this: no payout reviews, no video evidence requirements, no chart screenshots, no manual review hurdles. If your account meets the published rules (drawdown intact, 50% consistency satisfied, 5 trading days completed), the payout is processed. The firm’s stated position is: “No denied payouts. No payout reviews. No video reviews of trading. No chart screenshots needed. Payout confidence. No surprises. No special treatment. Everyone under the same rule set.”

New Account Structures: EOD Trailing vs. Intraday Trailing

For the first time in its history, Apex now offers two distinct drawdown types. Every account size ($25K, $50K, $100K, $150K) is available in both Intraday Trailing and EOD (End-of-Day) Trailing versions across all three platforms. This is a significant structural addition - legacy Apex only offered intraday trailing (plus one static drawdown option on the $100K, which has been discontinued).

How They Differ

Feature EOD Trailing Account Intraday Trailing Account
Drawdown Calculation Updates once per day based on your closing balance Updates in real-time based on your highest equity (including unrealized P&L)
Intraday Equity Impact None — unrealized profits during the session do not raise your breach level Every tick of unrealized profit permanently raises your breach level
Daily Loss Limit Yes — $500 (25K), $1,000 (50K), $1,500 (100K), $2,000 (150K) No
Pullback Tolerance High — you can hold through significant intraday pullbacks without affecting your drawdown Low — any pullback from an equity peak permanently tightens your risk floor
Best For Traders who hold positions through pullbacks, momentum traders, and anyone who found intraday trailing too punishing Scalpers and traders who take quick, defined-risk trades with tight stops
Consistency Rule 50% 50%
Profit Targets Same as intraday ($1,500–$9,000 by size) Same as EOD ($1,500–$9,000 by size)
Max Drawdown Same as intraday ($1,000–$4,000 by size) Same as EOD ($1,000–$4,000 by size)
Contract Limits Same as intraday (4/6/8/12 minis by size) Same as EOD (4/6/8/12 minis by size)
Cost Higher ($177–$397 list price) Lower ($118–$265 list price)

EOD Trailing: Why It Matters

The introduction of EOD trailing is Apex’s direct response to the most common complaint about its legacy program: intraday trailing drawdown was too punishing for normal trading behavior. Under intraday trailing, a trader who entered a position, saw it run +$800 in unrealized profit, then watched it pull back to +$200 before closing, had their breach level permanently raised by $800, not the $200 they actually captured. Over multiple trades, this ratcheting effect could push the breach level dangerously close to the current balance even for profitable traders.

EOD trailing solves this entirely. The breach level is updated only at market close based on your actual closed balance. If your account closes at $51,200, the breach level is adjusted to $51,200 minus the drawdown amount. What happened intraday - a $2,000 unrealized peak, a $1,500 pullback, a recovery - is irrelevant. Only the closing number matters.

The trade-off is the Daily Loss Limit. EOD accounts include a DLL that intraday accounts do not have. If you lose $1,000 on a $50K EOD account in a single session, trading stops for the day. This limits catastrophic single-day drawdowns but also means you cannot “trade your way back” from a bad morning session. For traders who are disciplined about daily risk, this is a non-issue. For traders who occasionally need a larger daily range to execute their strategy, it is a real constraint.

Intraday Trailing: When It Still Makes Sense

Intraday trailing accounts are cheaper and have no Daily Loss Limit. If your strategy involves quick, tightly-managed entries with predefined stops - scalping 4–8 ticks on NQ with a 10-tick stop, for example - the intraday trailing mechanic has minimal impact because your unrealized equity peaks are small and closely match your realized results. For this style of trading, paying less for the intraday account is the rational choice.

The risk increases with trade duration and position size. The longer you hold a position and the further it runs before you close it, the more the intraday trailing drawdown punishes the difference between your peak unrealized equity and your actual closing price. Momentum traders, trend followers, and anyone who holds through significant pullbacks should strongly consider the EOD option.

The New “Golden Rules” of Apex PA Accounts

The Performance Account rule set has been stripped down to its core elements. Here is what governs funded trading on new Apex accounts.

100% Profit Split - No Exceptions

This is the headline number, and it is not conditional. Traders keep 100% of their requested rewards on PA accounts. There is no 90/10 split, no tiered structure, no “first $25K at 100% then 90% after that.” Every dollar of profit you request as a payout is yours.

For context on how aggressive this is: Top One Futures offers 90/10 on sim-funded accounts (dropping to 80/20 on live). FundedNext Futures offers 80/20. Tradeify offers 90/10. My Funded Futures offers 100% on the first $10K, then drops to 90/10 (or 80/20 on some plans). Apex's flat 100% offer, with no cap and no conditions, is the most favorable profit structure currently available in the futures prop firm space.

5 Trading Days Between Payouts

The payout cycle has been reduced from 8 trading days (with at least 5 showing $50+ profit each) to 5 trading days. This means faster access to your earnings and more frequent withdrawal opportunities. A consistent trading schedule allows roughly 4 payouts per month instead of the previous 2–3.

The legacy requirements around “5 of 8 days profitable at $50 minimum” have not been confirmed for the new system as of launch day. The new system’s stated framework is simply “5 trading days” between reward requests. Verify current specifics on the Apex FAQ as the new documentation continues to be published.

Built-In Scaling

Contract scaling is now integrated directly into the PA account structure. Under the legacy system, traders were restricted to half of their maximum contract limit until their end-of-day balance exceeded the Safety Net (initial balance + trailing drawdown + $100). For a $50K legacy account with 10 minis max, this meant trading 5 minis until your EOD balance exceeded $52,600 - only then could you trade the full 10.

The new system describes scaling as “built-in for PA,” which suggests the mechanic is embedded in the account progression rather than requiring traders to manually track and manage the threshold. The specific scaling mechanics for new PA accounts should be verified against the current Apex documentation as published.

Note that while scaling has been simplified, the underlying contract limits are lower than legacy accounts at most sizes. This is covered in detail in the next section.

50% Consistency Rule

The consistency rule remains - it has not been eliminated. But it has been substantially relaxed. Under legacy accounts, no single trading day could exceed 30% of your total profit balance when requesting a payout. Under the new system, that threshold is 50%.

What this means in practice: If your total profit is $6,000 on a $50K account, your highest single day since your last payout (or since you started trading, if first payout) cannot exceed $3,000. Under the old 30% rule, that cap would have been $1,800, meaning you would have needed $10,000 total profit to support a $3,000 best day. The 50% rule requires only $6,000.

A 50% consistency threshold is among the most relaxed in the futures prop firm space. For comparison: Top One Futures Ignite uses 15%, Instant Sim uses 20%, and Elite uses 25%. FundedNext uses 40%. Tradeify Select Flex has no consistency rule at all on funded accounts. Apex’s 50% falls just below “no consistency rule” in terms of trader-friendliness, allowing substantial variance in daily profitability while still preventing a single windfall day from qualifying for a payout.

Key Technical Adjustments: The Fine Print

The headline improvements are significant, but Apex did not simply loosen every parameter. Several changes tightened the program in ways that directly affect which strategies are viable and how much risk traders can take. Understanding these adjustments is critical before selecting an account.

Drawdown Tightening

The maximum drawdown has been reduced on several account sizes compared to legacy equivalents:

Account Size Legacy Max Minis New Max Minis Legacy Max Micros New Max Micros
$25K 4 4 40 40
$50K 10 6 100 60
$100K 14 8 140 80
$150K 17 12 170 120

The $25K account took the largest proportional cut, losing a third of its drawdown room. On a practical level, a $1,000 total drawdown on a $25K account means the account is breached after losing just 4% of its starting balance. For context, a single 25-point NQ move against you on 2 mini contracts is $1,000, which would immediately breach the $25K account. Traders working with the $25K should be acutely aware of this constraint and size positions accordingly.

The $50K drawdown reduction from $2,500 to $2,000 narrows the margin for error but remains workable for most strategies. The $100K is unchanged. The $150K loses $1,000 of cushion, which is meaningful for traders running larger positions.

Contract Limit Reductions

Contract limits have been significantly reduced at most account sizes:

Account Size Legacy Max Minis New Max Minis Legacy Max Micros New Max Micros
$25K 4 4 40 40
$50K 10 6 100 60
$100K 14 8 140 80
$150K 17 12 170 120

The $25K account is unchanged. Every other size has been cut substantially. The $50K drops from 10 minis to 6 - a 40% reduction. The $100K drops from 14 to 8 - a 43% reduction. The $150K drops from 17 to 12 - a 29% reduction.

This matters for two reasons. First, traders who sized positions near the legacy maximum (running 8–10 minis on a $50K, for instance) will find the new limits restrictive. Second, reduced contract sizes limit the maximum daily profit potential, which interacts with the profit target: if you can run fewer contracts per trade, reaching the $3,000 profit target on a $50K account requires more trades or larger per-contract gains.

The tighter contract limits do align with the tighter drawdowns. Fewer contracts = less per-tick exposure = less likely to breach the drawdown on a single adverse move. Apex is effectively enforcing more conservative position sizing through the account structure itself, rather than through separate rules like the legacy MAE or scaling restrictions.

Evaluation Expiration: No Resets

This is a fundamental change in the cost structure. Legacy evaluations could be reset for $80 (Rithmic/WealthCharts) or $100 (Tradovate) at any time, allowing traders to restart from zero without purchasing a new account. The monthly subscription continued, and the reset simply wiped the balance.

New evaluations have no reset option. Each evaluation is active for 30 days from the date of purchase. If you fail (breach the drawdown) or simply don’t hit the profit target within 30 days, the evaluation expires. To try again, you purchase a new evaluation at full price (or whatever promotional discount is active).

The math on this varies by trader. If you had reset a legacy account once (spending $80–$100 per reset on top of the monthly fee), the new one-time fee structure is likely cheaper overall. If you historically needed 3–5 resets before passing, the cumulative cost of buying 3–5 new evaluations - even at promotional prices - may be comparable to or exceed the old subscription-plus-reset model. Traders should factor their historical pass rate into the cost calculation.

Platform Pricing Uniformity

Under the legacy system, Tradovate evaluations cost $20 more per month than Rithmic or WealthCharts at every account size. This platform's premium no longer exists. Whether you choose Rithmic, Tradovate, or WealthCharts, the pricing is identical for the same drawdown type and account size.

However, there is a price difference between drawdown types. EOD Trailing accounts cost more than Intraday Trailing accounts at every size:

Account Size Intraday Trail (List) EOD Trail (List) Premium for EOD
$25K $118.00 $177.00 +$59.00 (50%)
$50K $131.33 $197.00 +$65.67 (50%)
$100K $198.00 $297.00 +$99.00 (50%)
$150K $264.67 $397.00 +$132.33 (50%)

The EOD premium is approximately 50% across all account sizes. This reflects the substantially more trader-friendly drawdown mechanics - you are paying for the protection of having your drawdown calculated only at market close. For traders who found intraday trailing to be the primary reason they blew evaluations, the premium is likely worth the improved pass rate.

Account Size Reduction

The new product lineup offers four sizes: $25K, $50K, $100K, and $150K. The legacy $75K, $250K, $300K, and $100K Static accounts are no longer available for new purchases. Traders who want account sizes above $150K can access them only through legacy accounts (which are no longer available for new purchases but continue operating for existing holders) or by running multiple new accounts up to the 20-account household limit.

Legacy Accounts: What Happens to Existing Traders

If you purchased Apex evaluations or PA accounts before March 1, 2026, your accounts are unaffected by the new program. Specifically:

  • Legacy evaluations continue under their original rules (7-day minimum, monthly billing, intraday trailing only, reset fees available)
  • Legacy PAs continue under their original rules (30% consistency, MAE rule, 5:1 risk-reward, 8-day payout cycle, 100% first $25K then 90%)
  • Legacy accounts remain on monthly recurring billing until cancelled
  • Legacy evaluations that are passed will progress into legacy PAs (not new PAs)
  • Legacy accounts can still be reset at the original fees ($80 Rithmic/WealthCharts, $100 Tradovate)
  • Traders can hold a mix of legacy and new accounts simultaneously - there is no conflict

This means existing Apex traders do not need to take any action. Their accounts, rules, and billing are unchanged. The new program only applies to purchases made on or after March 1, 2026.

Choosing the Right Challenge

With 24 evaluation options now available (4 account sizes × 2 drawdown types × 3 platforms), here is a framework for narrowing down the right challenge:

Step 1 - Choose your drawdown type. If you hold trades for more than a few minutes, experience meaningful unrealized P&L swings, or historically failed Apex evaluations because of intraday trailing, choose EOD. If you scalp with tight stops and small unrealized swings, intraday is fine and costs less.

Step 2 - Choose your platform. If you need Mac or mobile access, choose Tradovate (includes TradingView compatibility). If you want the fastest execution and plan to use NinjaTrader or Sierra Chart, choose Rithmic. If you want built-in scanning and educational tools, choose WealthCharts. Pricing is identical across platforms, so this is purely a functionality decision.

Step 3 - Choose your account size. The $50K and $100K accounts offer the most balanced combination of profit target, drawdown room, and contract limits. The $25K has a very tight drawdown ($1,000) that limits viable strategies. The $150K has the highest cost and profit target ($9,000) but offers the most contracts and the largest absolute drawdown cushion ($4,000).

Step 4 - Factor in your pass rate. Since there are no resets and evaluations expire after 30 days, consider how many attempts you typically need. If you historically pass within 2–3 weeks, the one-time fee model saves money. If you typically need multiple resets, budget for the possibility of purchasing 2–3 evaluations.

All data reflects Apex Trader Funding’s official website and published documentation as of March 2, 2026. The new product structure was launched on March 1, 2026. Some PA-specific details (exact activation fees, detailed scaling mechanics, payout cap structures) may still be in the process of being published as Apex rolls out its updated FAQ and support documentation.
